SKIN CHANGES
When blood glucose runs high, your body loses fluid and your skin can become dry. Another cause of dry, itchy skin is neuropathy. The nerves in the legs and feet may not get the message to sweat, a process that keeps skin moist.
Other skin problems can occur along with diabetes because high blood glucose can be a breeding ground for bacteria and fungi. Most of these skin problems can be prevented or readily treated if caught early, before they become more serious. See Table 4.5 for skin conditions common in people with diabetes.
