How to Overcome with Ignition Hazards with Explosion Proof Enclosures
Explosion proof enclosures are products that have an electric shock and have been exclusively created as a safety against lighting hazards like explosions. These enclosures can be made of various varieties of materials. Amongst these the normally used components are aluminum, fiber glass and heavy duty steel. Explosion proof enclosures are highly used at many important sites like oil refineries, paint factories and gas stations. Explosions in the electric networks are usually caused due the formation of the fire triangle. The fire triangle is formed by three components. These are the ignition point or the spark, oxygen and fuel. When these three are bind in a particular ratio, electrical explosion occurs.
To stay within the normal safety limits, the volume ratio of the fuel to the oxygen must not exceed the volume ratio prevailing between the common explosive point of the fuel, and the source of lighting. On crossing the proportion, a spark in the energy takes place, causing lighting in the fire triangle mixture. The detonation proof enclosures aid in eliminating the potential explosion risk by removing all the inflammation sources from the site. An enclosure that is internationally certified as having all explosion proof qualities must be used for the purpose. The explosion resistant enclosures work by withstanding all the three internal forces which might otherwise gather in causing an explosion.
An explosion proof enclosure requires being in a specific layout and design. An organized design will verify that hot gases to pass through the ventilation systems which will allow the electrical arrangement to remain cool, at a temperature below the critical ignition point, in case, there is some hazardous fuel. This is the reason why the enclosures are made using tough components like aluminum and cast steel. The enclosures also need to have ample rims. The rims should be grounded to the finish and should posses a good acceptance.
The explosive resistant enclosures in accordance with the threaded cover will generate long and narrow paths. The possible dangerous hot gases will pass through these thread tubes, giving up the heat to the metal, and in the process cutting the explosive force. However, the cover bolts of the enclosure must be well torque to the recommended value. Also, it is to be kept in mind that the projection surfaces of the explosion proof enclosure remains protected throughout from scratches. This is because, if the torque is not properly established and the projected surfaces are broken, then the consequent hot gases will pass away. Besides, the risks of explosion will become more if the outside air of the enclosure is prone is explosion.
This is the cause why, the explosion proof enclosures are always exist in nearly every kind of factory. Each electrical device has its own qualities and thus the enclosures needed for different functions are labeled consequently, also keeping in mind the environmental rules set up by the National Electrical Code or as per the IEC Standards.
